What I present today is a contemporary art movement, famous for its giant and colorful sculptures of animals: I’m talking about Cracking Art!
This movement was founded in 1993 by these people: Omar Ronda, Alex Angi, Renzo Nucara, Carlo Rizzetti, Marco Veronese, Vittorio Valente and Kicco. All artists of various nationalities who come together for a common cause.
The purpose of Cracking Art goes far beyond the realization of nice sculptures, engaging and impact: all the subjects are in fact made of recycled plastic. The goal is to make the world understand that plastic is something harmful to the environment, and that making these works of art out of recycled plastic prevents it from going to waste in the environment.
The term “Cracking Art” comes from the English “to crack” and refers to the act of breaking, breaking. But with the name of “catalytic cracking” is defined the reaction that transforms crude oil into plastic, the moment in which the natural becomes artificial, what they want to express with their art.
Theirs is a social commitment to make people understand two things: the first is that our world is becoming more and more artificial; the second is a gesture to try to save the environment from this plastic, which is used in other ways.
What they organize are often real invasions: the animals of Cracking Art form squadrons and invade the cities with organized exhibitions, so that it is impossible for people not to notice them.
Elephants, snails, dogs, cats, meerkats, wolves, frogs, swallows, turtles and many other colorful animals are ready to be noticed. In addition to these, also some elements related to nature, such as floral compositions.
Among me many exhibitions made and in progress we can mention “BarocCracking” in Vicenza, held in 2018, in which animals invaded the city; “Wolves of Light”, beautiful installation in which the wolves of Cracking Art found themselves guarding the windows of the Sala Luce in Tollegno 1900, creating a truly scenographic effect; or “Enchantment”, in which many structures invaded the city of Trieste.
A series of occasions in which these installations manage to capture the attention of the observer, making everything else take a back seat.
A great gimmick for a beautiful goal!
CURIOSITY:
Cracking Art aims to change the rules of art with a 2001 manifesto, divided into 10 points and signed by participants in the movement.
